With hundreds of thousands of visitors attending this year's London Boat Show at ExCel, several manufacturers have chosen this as the venue to launch their latest models and kit. With stands costing exhibitors tens of thousands of pounds, and the world's marine media covering every aspect of the show, it was essential that the marketing messages are right for any new product launch.

Of particular interest to Draycote sailors was the launch of the new RS100, the much anticipated hiking asymmetric singlehander from LDC.

For this launch, those clever marketing people at LDC rejected Alex Thompson's "oh look, you can see through the sail, isn't that clever", Ben Ainslie's "the launching trolley looks great if you go for the blue wheels", and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's "I know, if a few of you bought one, you could even hold little races and everything".

For this important global product launch, only one man's endorsement would do...

... and from one lame quote, to probably the fastest selling dinghy pre-production on record.

Seriously though, it would be good to see a few at Draycote in the future. It's definitely got the space to stretch its legs!

Would someone like to approach RS and get their demonstator at the Club for a week?

I'd be interested to try one on a club course against the 300's. Seems like an awful lot of faff to go slower to me.....

I spoke to Charlie Merchant LDC's sales manager (I'm mates with his brother) and as there was a demo at Grafam not long ago it wouldn't be till the fleet is in full swing so more likley mid summer.

What about a pint James for a demo?

So James may have been quoted on the RS100 advertisement at the boat show but Draycotes very own Bolland (380) was on the 300 advert! Doing what he does best as usual, pointing about 10 degrees higher than the rest of the fleet and (presumably) going at twice the speed:

Nick, when are you getting your boat back out, its nearly time for Wednesday evenings!

Lol! It looks like one of the starts from the Looe Nationals; I'd obviously decided that stuffing the boat was less hard work than hiking!

Thanks for reminding me that I used to sail a 300. It's now fully restored and I'll be there at the weekend :)
